“Gardens of Belvoir Castle Designed by Capability Brown”

Speaker: Her Grace, Duchess of Rutland, Emma Manners
Garden Design
Open to Guests

Belvoir Castle, standing proudly in the Vale of Belvoir and home to the Duke of Rutland’s family since 1067, is one of the finest examples of Regency architecture in the world. The Belvoir (pronounced beaver) Estate has been passed down through 36 successive generations and remains the seat of the Dukes of Rutland. The castle remains privately owned but is open to visitors.

The Duchess of Rutland actively manages the estate. She is especially proud of and has written about the extensive conservation works in their new landscaped garden which was restored in 2016 from Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown’s 1780 original designs. The Duchess recently completed restoring the Engine Yard - a collection of charming Victorian buildings on the property. These workshops produced furniture, windows, and doors during the construction of the present Belvoir Castle in the early 1800s and now these beautiful buildings have been lovingly renovated to create a unique rural retail village.
