Speaker: Renee Shepherd
Renee Shepherd is widely regarded as a pioneering innovator in the introduction of international specialty vegetable and herb seeds to home gardeners. After receiving her PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz and teaching in the Environmental Studies department there, she founded the mail order company, Shepherd’s Garden Seeds in 1983, which she ran until it was sold to White Flower Farms in 1988. She founded Renee’s Garden in 1998 to do what she likes best – offering seeds to give fellow gardeners access to the high-quality varieties. Renee’s Garden features her carefully selected choices of both Certified Organic and conventional seeds for exciting new, time-tested heirloom gourmet vegetables, culinary herbs, and cutting flowers. She sources from seed growers both large and small around the world, then trials them herself throughout the United States.
In 2015, Renee received the American Horticultural Society's Great American Gardener Paul Ecke Jr. Award for her "commitment to the highest standards of excellence in commercial horticulture and the betterment of gardening practices everywhere."
